Blackwell. The contributor's article ["London Stones" XII, 228-29. Oct. 6, 1855] displays a sound knowledge of geology; it discusses the varieties of granite, slate, sandstone, coal, etc., to be seen in London streets, buildings, lapidaries' yards, and elsewhere. Payment for the contribution made by cheque.

The contributor may be John Keynon Blackwell, F.G.S., cousin of Ann Blackwell (below); mentioned by Elizabeth Blackwell (Pioneer Work in Opening the Medical Profession to Women, chap. iv) as a South Staffordshire ironmaster; author of a report to Parliament on the ventilation of mines, 1850, and of the pamphlet Explosions in Coal Mines, 1853, dated from 1 Westbourne Place, Hyde Park. Or the contributor may be Samuel H. Blackwell of Dudley, F.G.S., author of "The Iron-Making Resources of the United Kingdom," published in Lectures on the Results of the Great Exhibition of 1851, 2nd ser., 1853.
The H.W. article seems more appropriate to the Blackwell of the London address than to the Blackwell of Dudley.
